ISI

ISI is a skating program that many skaters use to level up to new levels, take tests, and learn how to skate using the weSkate program. ISI stands for Ice Skating Institute. As a member of the ISI, this is a great program to start off, because it's a program that is not to challenging but not to easy either. Compared to the USFS (on the next page). Using there weSkate program at my rink and maybe other rinks how it works is you sign up for lessons, and about half way through you block you will get a sheet checking off the elements you have got down, and it marks down the ones you need to work on, this gives skaters a chance to fix what they need to work on before there test like thing that says you pass or failed. There are many pros and cons that may help you understand ISI better, so here they are
Pros

  1. It's a great program for people who don't want as big of a challenge
  2. It's a great well designed and not as complex as USFS is
  3. It doesn't take up as much time as using the USFS (at least in my opinion)
  4. They give you more opportunities to travel around the US and compete, meet new people then USFS
  5. It is not as competitive, which is good for skaters who is not big on competing
Cons

  1. ISI does not focus on the small techniques as much as USFS, for example a hair cutter is just a spin where you pick up your foot and pull it to your head, but USFS requires a more then just a leg being lifted to your head.
  2. It does not focus as much on edge quality for moves then USFS
  3. It is not the best program once you reach about freestyle 4 and most skaters switch to USFS or spend more time focusing on USFS then ISI
  4. It is not a program that is a big emphasizer on getting you to the olympics, if you notice all the people who end up at olympics are USFS skaters and the Olympics requires you to pass all USFS tests.
